1Password opens the door to AI agents — without handing over your passwords

Available now for 1Password individual and family accounts, the 1Password for Agents integration lets your supported AI agent log into a website using your 1Password credentials. The agent must first verify its identity with 1Password using a unique digital key; once that’s done, 1Password takes over, plugging your username and password directly into the site without your agent getting to see them.
If this kind of 1Password functionality sounds familiar, you may be thinking of 1Password for Claude, a Claude extension that lets Claude Cowork log into websites using your 1Password credentials without seeing your usernames or passwords.
In an email, 1Password business chief John Torrey told me that 1Password for Agents “builds on integrations like 1Password for Claude,” allowing personal AI agents that aren’t tied to your desktop to securely handle your 1Password credentials.
Torrey stressed that 1Password users will remain in control when it comes to determining when and how agents use their passwords. “The user is involved in every decision,” Torrey said. “Our customers decide which credentials an agent can use and for which task, and for how long. The agent can’t approve its own access.”
At launch, 1Password for Agents will offer integrations for ChatGPT Work and “dot” agents, Claude Duet (the new “proactive” Claude agent), Grok Bot, Meta Muse, and Townie agents.
Noticeably absent from the list is Google’s Gemini Spark agent, as well as Microsoft Scout, but 1Password’s press release notes there are “additional integrations to come.”
