Mumbai: The Government of India recently announced that Google (Google) and Apple to Battleground Mobile India (BGMI) asked the game to be removed from the Play Store. Now BGMI App in India (India) is not available for download. Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) has been downloaded over ten crore times in the country since its launch in July 2021. Crafton Inc, developer of BGMI, made the announcement while announcing earnings for the June quarter. The company said that in the first half of the year, the company’s revenue increased due to the increase in new user additions in India. The company also said that the BGMI Masters tournament which was held in partnership with Nodwin Gaming in the country and aired on Star Sports TV channel. It got a total of 2.4 million TV viewers and 20 million viewers.
95 percent revenue received
According to Crafton, the company’s global revenue grew 3 percent year-over-year (YoY) in the first half of 2022, while operating profit rose 18% year-on-year. In May, the company said it got 95 percent of its revenue from international markets in the first quarter of the year. The company’s total revenue for the quarter ended June 2022 was approximately Rs 32.50 crore.
Popular games
Like PUBG Mobile, BGMI also became a favorite game for Indians in its short span. The combined value of some of the top BGMI tournaments in 2022 was around Rs 6-8 crore. In comparison, the annual prize pool of Valorant, the second largest eSports game in India, is not even 15 percent of BGMI.
Letter to the Prime Minister
According to a report in TechCrunch, some gaming companies have written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting him to act ‘fairly’ and help boost India’s gaming ecosystem. These companies are urging the government to “treat all entities operating in India equitably and fairly”. In a letter to the Prime Minister, he has requested immediate intervention in the matter. Advice and guidance is sought to work towards more urgent interactions and discussions in the future.
Large number of players
Late last month the government ordered Google and Apple to block the BGMI gaming app from their respective online stores under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act 2000. Game developer Crafton recently announced that BGMI has crossed over 10 crore registered users in India.
