One of 2023’s biggest live-service games will no longer be updated just a year after launch

LIVE-SERVICE games are some of the most popular in gaming, with titles like Fortnite taking over the industry.

While certain games have seen huge success, many more end up abandoned after a short time.

We’ve seen a number of live-service games be released unsuccessfully this year already.

In February alone, Skull and Bones, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, Nightingale, and Foamstars all launched unsuccessfully, with Helldivers 2 being the only popular live-service release.

This has been the trend for a while now, with players dedicating themselves to their favourites instead of branching out into new releases.

When combined with the oversaturation of the market, the trend has been for more live-service games failing than succeeding.

The latest game seemingly added to the long list of failures is Capcom’s Exoprimal, which launched in July last year.

Similar to games like Earth Defense Force, this is a team-based shooter where up to five people in mechs can take on waves of incoming dinosaurs.

There is no news of the servers being shut down, but no new content will be added to the game.

July 11 marks the end of Season 4 of Exoprimal, and after this date, the game will begin again at Season 1.

From now Exoprimal will recycle the content, with Seasons 1-4 being available every year for three months.

Looking at player counts it seems obvious why Capcom would stop putting resources into the game.

On Steam, while there was an all-time peak of almost 5k, the daily peak is now under 100 concurrent players.
