Fortnite servers down as Epic Games investigates login and matchmaking issues
FORTNITE servers are down for many players right now, as developer Epic Games is looking into login and matchmaking issues.
Fortnite’s brand-new Chapter 6 Season 1 launched last weekend, but today, December 4, 2024, many players are reporting that servers are down.
Unlike the planned maintenance time on Saturday, the ongoing downtime today is an unplanned server outage.
Fortnite’s developer Epic Games took to Twitter/X moments ago to confirm that the game is experiencing server issues.
“We’re investigating an issue affecting logins and matchmaking, which we are working to resolve now.”, the official post said.
Epic Games is looking into the issue and has promised to update players when they can go back online.
According to the developer’s server status page, the Epic Games Store and other games relying on Epic for login and matchmaking are also experiencing issues.
First reports of the ongoing Fortnite outage appeared around 3:45pm UK time / 10:45am ET, today, December 4, 2024, according to website Downdetector.com.
Epic Games acknowledged the issue around 4:14pm UK time / 11:14am ET and their investigation into the server outage is still ongoing at the time of writing.
Players are reporting mostly login and server connection issues, but it seems that issues are close to being fixed, as some players were able to login again.
Epic Games has also since reclassified the issue from a “Major outage” to “Degraded performance” on its own status page.
“Unable to sign into your account for online services, please try again later.” is a common error people are seeing when trying to log into the game right now.
PlayStation players are getting a simillar “Unable to sign in to your account for PlayStation Network.” message related to the same ongoing outage.
While the developers haven’t given a deadline by which servers will be back online, players should expect the issue to resolve in a few hours.
The latest update on Fortnite’s outage by Epic Games is from 4:41pm UK time / 11:41am ET, noting the developers are still investigating the issue.
Meanwhile, you can always check the current Fortnite status via Epic Games’ server status page or the Fortnite Status Twitter/X account.
