Google hands out free ‘personal AI helpers’ to EVERYONE and says Gem assistant can even plan your dinners to save money
GOOGLE is handing out “personal AI experts” that help you get annoying jobs done – and can even save you money.
These free AI helpers are meant to give you a hand with specific tasks.

That’s in contrast to a general AI chatbot that is supposed to help with a load of different jobs.
Google calls these specific AI helpers “Gems”, and you can use premade ones or create your own.
For instance, existing Gems include a “brainstormer” buddy, as well as your own personal career guide.
Alternatively, Google says you could make a “meal planner” Gem that can help you sort healthier dinners – or find ways to save money on the weekly shop.
You can even upload files for the Gem to reference.
So you could tell upload a list of your favourite (and most-hated) foods to the Gem, and then tell it you’re trying to lose weight and save money.
The Gem should then be able to plan all of your dinners for as long as you’d like.
Google gave the example of a “Dinner Party Planner” Gem that you can use whenever you need it.
The instructions for the Gem were: “You are a professional dinner party planner obsessed with all the little details.
“Help me plan for my dinners taking into account my friends’ preferences, decorations, a fun theme, and anything else needed to be the best host.”
You’d be able to use it every time you were having people over for dinner.
They’re part of Google’s Gemini chatbot app, which is also free to use.
“Gems let you customize Gemini to create your own personal AI expert on any topic,” Google explained.
“And are starting to roll out for everyone at no cost in the Gemini app.”

To use a Gem, you’ll just need to go to Google’s Gemini service on a desktop.
Then write some instructions for your Gem and give it a name.
Once that’s done, you’ll be able to chat with your Gem as often as you want.
Gemini is Google’s rival to OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Microsoft CoPilot.

You can talk to it, ask for images to be created from scratch, and even has live voice conversations with Gemini Live.
It’s available as a website, but you can also get Gemini as an app on your iPhone and Android phone.
