Grand Theft Auto (GTA) is one of the most popular video game series of all time, having become as iconic as Super Mario or Sonic the Hedgehog.
The sixth installment of the franchise is highly anticipated, but the game’s creators have been secretive about when it will hit shelves.
A trailer for the latest edition of the GTA story was released in 2023, after it was leaked early online.
Celebrities from Snoop Dogg to Dr Dre have been linked to the game, but little else is known about it.
However, fans were left worried when an online source suggested that the game may cost an eyewatering amount of money.
Michael Pachter from Wedbrush Securities said that GTA 6 might cost a staggering $100 (£77.46) when it finally arrives.
Upon learning the news, gamers took to social media to vent their frustrations.
One particularly angry gamer said: “Go f*** yourself. I’m not paying that.”
Another Reddit user expressed concerns about microtransactions – small real-life payments for virtual items or access to online gameplay.
They said: “I’m more worried about how much of the game is going to be geared towards live service microtransactions.”
Take-Two, the company behind Grand Theft Auto, are yet to respond to the rumours.
Video games are typically sold by stores for around £50.
However, some fans have realised that their older classics may be worth thousands.
A pristine copy of the Rachet and Clank collection can sell for up to £600 though its value can drop to £66 if it is out of the box.
A professionally graded copy of the horror classic Silent Hill 2 can be worth as much as £1,049.
