LG’s 39-inch ultrawide 1440p OLED monitor is only $672 now
For gaming monitors, bigger is almost always better. And LG agrees, building its ultrawide OLED models in a couple of oversized formats that go beyond the usual 34 inches. Today, you can get a 39-inch model—a solid 25 percent larger than usual at the same resolution—for just $671.20 on Amazon. That’s about what you’d pay for even the cheapest 34-inch OLED model, and it’s hundreds off its original MSRP.
The UltraGear 39GS95QE OLED pairs a big panel with a dramatic 800R curve, speedy 240Hz refresh rate, and G-Sync and FreeSync compatibility, all things that PC gamers will appreciate. But what I like is that it has the same semi-standard 3440×1440 resolution as a smaller ultrawide, so you get a bigger picture without putting more strain on your gaming PC’s frame rates. If you want a more dramatic experience without sacrificing performance, I think it’s a good move.
Other specs on this monitor are a little basic, especially the connections. You get a single DisplayPort, two HDMI, and two USB-A ports for other gadgets, so this can’t connect directly to a laptop and keep it powered up with a single USB-C cable. But it’s an acceptable sacrifice if using with a desktop PC. (You might also want a VESA monitor arm to go with it. If you do, get one that can handle this monitor’s heft—it’s 15.4 pounds without the stand that comes in the box.)
Amazon has this monitor on a direct discount with no time limit, so I’m not sure how long the deal will stick around. Normally it goes for over a thousand bucks, so this is definitely a nice discount.
If you want to go even bigger with that same 3440×1440 resolution, there’s a 45-inch version of this design too, currently on a “limited time deal” of $999.99. Notably, that design (45GX900A-B) has USB-C video support, but it maxes out at 65 watts of power delivery.
