Microsoft adds setting to disable AI sharing in Windows 11 taskbar

Microsoft is testing a new Windows 11 feature that allows AI assistants to access app windows in the taskbar.

The feature—called “Share any window from my taskbar with virtual assistant”—allows you to share a specific window with, for example, Copilot without manually starting a traditional screen share. It was first spotted by prominent Windows data miner @phantomofearth:

When a window is shared in this way, the AI assistant gains the ability to read visible content, summarize information, provide suggestions, and guide you through actions visually. However, the AI assistant can’t take control of the app—so far, it’s only a reading and support layer.

The feature is optional and disabled by default. It can be turned on or off completely via the settings in Windows 11.
