The free file-sharing app I install on every new device

If you regularly move files between your phone, tablet, and computer, you’ve probably run into the same annoyance I have. AirDrop works great (I love it!), but not all of my devices are Apple devices. That’s when I turned to LocalSend.

LocalSend is a free, open-source app that lets you send files between devices on the same Wi-Fi network, no matter what operating system they use. Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iPhone all work together without any extra setup. Like AirDrop, but for everything.

It’s dead simple to use, too. Install the app on your devices, make sure they’re connected to the same local network, and nearby devices will appear automatically. Select the files you want to send, choose the destination device, and you’re done. Photos, videos, documents, folders, and other files transfer directly over your local network. It saves me time and headaches by not having to utilize cloud storage, USB drives, or email to move things around.

Because everything stays on your local network, your files never pass through a third-party server. That leads to transfers that are faster than uploading and downloading from the cloud, especially for large files.

I use LocalSend on a daily basis, moving screenshots from my phone to my PC and transferring files for quick print jobs. If you’re not a Mac user, LocalSend may just become your new favorite app.
