Urgent warning issued to anyone who uses Google search – you could lose thousands
GOOGLE users have been warned to watch out for crypto scams which are allegedly still appearing in search results.
According to an expert, crypto phishing and scamming websites are appearing in results.
Changpeng “CZ” Zhao, boss of crypto currency exchange firm Binance, made the claims on Twitter.
There have been multiple stories of people allegedly losing thousands from fake ads.
One man claimed he lost £140,000 worth of Ethereum after being duped last year.
Zhao shared a screenshot of scams labelled up top as ads, when searching for CoinMarketCap, a crypto data aggregator owned by his company.
“Google displays phishing sites when users search CMC,” he warned.
“This affects users adding smart contract addresses to MetaMask using these phishing sites.
“We are trying to contact Google for this, and in the meantime alerting users about this through social channels.”
This is apparently happening despite Google’s strict rules.
Adverts for crypto are allowed, but they must meet certain conditions.
The policy states that advertisers who “promote complex speculative financial products (Contracts for Difference, rolling spot forex, financial spread betting and synonymous products) or cryptocurrency exchanges are allowed to advertise through Google Ads”.
But they “must be certified by Google, and their products, landing pages”.
They have to meet any legal requirements of the country/region that they want to get certified for as well.
