Google Maps rival introduces major new alert that drivers have been requesting for years – don’t ignore it

GOOGLE Maps rival Waze has introduced a new feature that drivers have been requesting for years.

Everyone loves a little warning, but think-time is absolutely essential when it comes to navigating the roads.

A new update from Waze now gives users notice of upcoming speed bumps and sharp turns.

A sudden speed bump can do damage to a vehicle, while a sharp turn without warning could result in a collision.

Waze has told users via an in-app notification: “You might get alerts to pay attention to the road, like before sharp curves.”

It’s just one of many helpful features built into Waze, such as the ability to see alerts for history of crashes on your routes and cost-inducing potholes.

The company has been working on this feature for several years, according to 9to5Google.

After officially announcing the feature’s arrival in early 2023, Waze has only just begun rolling it out.

It comes soon after a redesign of Waze’s incident reporting system, which better organises reporting options such as hazards, road works and police activities.

While Waze is one of Google Maps’ closest rival – it’s no skin off Google’s back.

Waze was bought by Google for $1.3billion (£1billion) in 2013.

Google has a history of integrating Waze’s technology into its own Maps.

The company operated independently and developed technology and new features separate from Google until a couple of years ago.

In 2022, Waze’s 500-strong team joined the Google Maps team.
